Peter Möller – the pioneer of cod liver oils

The origins of Möller go back 170 years. The Norwegian pharmacist and businessman Peter Möller developed the first Möller Cod Liver Oil in 1853. Though science did not know the full power of omega-3 fatty acids at the time, cod liver oil had been used as a medicine for a long time. However, the production methods of those days had not managed to come up with a solution to the repulsive smell and flavor of cod liver oil which limited its popularity. Peter Möller managed to develop a new production method for cod liver oil, vapor distillation, which provided a solution to the problem.

The popularity of the new cod liver oil did not begin to soar immediately since the image of the distasteful cod liver oil was very persistent. Möller worked a lot to promote the research of the health benefits of cod liver oil and marketing these benefits to consumers. As the result of this persistent work, the popularity of the Möller Cod Liver Oil began to increase and it became an important part of the Northeners' health.

High-quality and sustainable cod liver oil from Norway

The Möller cod liver oils are still exclusively produced in Norway. The products are made from cod caught in the coastal waters of northwestern Norway by local fishermen, strictly abiding the principles of sustainable development. The cod liver oil is processed further in Möller’s own factory in Oslo.

The production of the Möller cod liver oils is strictly supervised and the requirements for the quality of the ingredients are high. Möller follows the principles of sustainable fishing and the products have been granted the MSC certification.

The Möller omega-3 products support health in many ways

The Möller cod liver oils contain many important nutrients, such as the essential omega-3 fatty acids (DHA+EPA) and vitamins A, D and E which contribute to the wellbeing of the heart, the brain and the immune system.
