Beneficial fatty acids from nature

Omega-7 fatty acids are polyunsaturated fatty acids. Omega-7 fatty acids are known for their effects on protecting and strengthening the skin and mucous membranes. This is due to the palmitoleic acid in the omega-7 fatty acids. An excellent source of omega-7 fatty acids is sea-buckthorn oil which is a valued ingredient in dietary supplements and cosmetics. Omega-7 fatty acids can be acquired from sea-buckthorn oil

The body can synthesize omega-7 fatty acids to some extent. This is why omega-7 fatty acids are not essential fatty acids that need to be acquired externally from foods or supplements, such as alpha-linoleic acids (an omega-3 fatty acid) and linoleic acid (an omega-6 fatty acid). However, omega-7 fatty acids are relatively rare in foods. One good source of omega-7 fatty acids is sea-buckthorn oil.

Sea-buckthorn oil is useful in treating the skin

Oil from the seeds and pulp of sea-buckthorn is used in sea-buckthorn supplements. Sea-buckthorn products contain omega-3, -6, -7 and -9 fatty acids, in addition to many vitamins and minerals. Sea-buckthorn oil is particularly rich in palmitoleic acid which strengthens and protects the skin and mucous membranes.

Clinical research has been done about sea-buckthorn oil (e.g. University of Turku in Finland) on its effects on protecting and treating the skin. Due to its antioxidants, sea-buckthorn oil has anti-aging effects. It is also effective in treating dry skin due to its fatty acids.
