Collection: Chocolates

Chocolate – that lovely pleasure

Even though we don’t have cacao trees up North from which we could get the ingredients for chocolate, we are very good at making it. We have many small chocolate factories in Finland where chocolate is handmade. Our country is also full of small cafes where handmade confectionery and other chocolate treats are available – and now these are also available for you! Get to know the delicious selection. 😋

Delicious and ethical chocolates

What would be a better way to treat yourself or someone special than high-quality chocolate? We offer a selection of chocolates for every taste and our variety of flavors always has some kind of a special twist. You can find organic chocolates, raw chocolates, vegan chocolates, handmade chocolates and even insect chocolates in our unique selection.

We only offer chocolate products that have been prepared respecting the principles of sustainable development. The flavors come from pure ingredients and the chocolates you find in our selection don’t contain any extra preservatives or additives.

The cocoa bean used to make chocolate contains lots of zinc, magnesium, copper and flavonoids which function as antioxidants. In case you wish to treat yourself with slightly healthier chocolate, raw chocolate is your choice. Raw chocolate is never heated over 40 degrees Celsius during the production so that all its enzymes, vitamins and phytonutrients are better preserved.

A few facts about chocolate and cocoa

  • Cocoa from the cacao trees (Theobroma Cacao) is used as the basis for making chocolate.
  • Cocoa contains zinc, magnesium, copper and flavonoids. Flavonoids function as antioxidants in the body.
  • A large portion of the chocolate available is unfortunately not produced in a sustainable or ethical way. By choosing chocolates marked with the Fair trade logo, you can support responsible chocolate producers.
  • The three main cocoa varieties are Criollo, Forastero ja Trinitario.
  • A high cocoa percentage (the percentage stated in the chocolate packaging) does not guarantee the quality of the chocolate, though the higher the percentage, the less sugar the chocolate contains. The percentage of cocoa also includes the amount of cocoa mass and cocoa butter, not just the amount of cocoa powder. It’s better to pay more attention to the quality of the ingredients and whether the chocolate has been produced in an ethical way.
  • The largest commercial cocoa plantations are located in West Africa even though the cacao tree is originally from South America. South Africa is the second largest area of cocoa production, followed by Indonesia.
