Moomin characters from Finland
The Moomins are famous fairytale characters found in the books and the comics created by the Finnish author and illustrator Tove Jansson. The Moomins are a family of white and round characters that resemble hippos. The Moomin family lives in Moominvalley and engages in adventures with their friends and other inhabitants of the Moominvalley.
The Moomin books are based on comics which were started to be published in 1954 in the London newspaper The Evening News and which later spread to 40 countries reaching over 20 million readers. The nine Moomin books – originally written in Swedish – have been translated into over 50 languages. The books have been turned into TV series, films, plays and an opera. In addition, several theme parks, shops and cafes around the world have been dedicated to the characters.
